Luxury Retreat, Playa del Carmen, Mexico
During my recent trip to the luxury resorts of Mayakoba, the Rosewood Mayakoba separated itself from the other upscale resorts, with its emphasis on personalized service and community.
The Mayakoba complex is home to 4 resorts including the Fairmont Mayakoba (reviewed at this link) so they all have the tropical jungle setting but there are some unique features for Rosewood.
What's here?
This is not your basic beach resort. Think cool nature mixed with 5-star pampering. ✨
Ditch the cramped hotel rooms. Here, you're talking sprawling suites and villas fit for Mayan royalty. Each suite offers an open floor plan, huge terraces and contemporary furniture made by Mexican artisans. Enjoy private plunge pools overlooking the lagoon, hammocks swaying over the water, and bathtubs bigger than your living room back home (okay, maybe not that big, but still impressive).
Rosewood Mayakoba is a foodie paradise. From gourmet Italian feasts to fresh seafood with ocean views, your taste buds will do a happy dance. Pro tip: Snag a table at Aquí Me Quedo for vibrant street food vibes and killer cocktails.
Who Should Go?
The resort is great for both families (kid's club) and adults. Those who want more privacy will get it with the spacious beautiful suites tucked into the mangroves. There are beach front suites also along with the soft white sand catching the waves. If you are a golfer, try El Camaleón. Designed by Greg Norman, it is the first PGA TOUR golf course in Latin America. It is in the upper price ranges but if you have the budget, it is an incredible property.
What's Unique?
You can kayak through the surrounding lagoons and visit the cenote on the property.
The vibe is very much focused on rejuvenation, both mental and physical. The gym and spa facilities boast the latest Peloton equipment with regular well-attended activity classes. There is an on-grounds vegetable and fruit garden which factor into the special meals and events for Rosewood visitors.
Zapote Bar is an internationally recognized destination for its Yucatan-inspired craft cocktails and a celebration of hacienda culture and Mexican hospitality. Internationally recognized as, "Best bar in Mexico, 2023" by Food and Travel and it was awarded a spot in North America's 50 Best Bars (number 11). For something different, book a lagoon villas and experience your own private boat dock access and crystal-clear water views.
